Review of Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close (2011) by Anthony L — 23 Jul 2012
Like the Critic's consensus states "Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close has a story worth telling, but it deserves better than the treacly and pretentious treatment director Stephen Daldry gives it". To be completely honest, I believe that this film could've been great if it had more likable characters. Oskar Schell, who is the lead, is mean and nasty which makes me not want him to find the lock that fits the key. Other than the boy, the screenplay is decent and the other performances are good but if it weren't for some small things, this film could've been masterful. I don't believe that it should've been nominated for Best Picture because films such as Drive are much more deserving.
Favorite Scene: When Oskar takes the shelf of keys and throws it and storms out of the building.
