Review of Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close (2011) by Bob S — 24 Jan 2013
Daldry continues to cement himself as one of the finest the filmmakers of this generation. The movie can make you feel at times like you are an awkward eavesdropper on a family coping with unimaginable, but all-too-real tragedy.
However, Daldry makes it work; he makes you feel okay with the intrusion. Horn was exceptional in his first role of any kind as Oskar, the beloved son of a man trapped in one of the towers on September 11th.
Hanks played his father and Bullock his mother - both actors were solid, but didn't have the screen time to showcase their best. The acting performance most deserving of praise was von Sydow as the mysterious mute houseguest of Oskar's grandmother.
