Review of Extreme Measures (1996) by Dustin M — 24 Nov 2010
Complete and utter tosh. A fart of a film. So we've got an attempt by Hugh Grant to play seriously (he can do it - Bitter Moon is proof positive), but instead we get this sarcastic git who I couldn't believe at any given point even when I knew he was innocent.
The film lacks any levity or wit or form - it's hard to believe that Tony Gilroy wrote this thing. I guess he sucked for a while there. Apted's direction is boring, and even Gene Hackman is useless.
J.K. Simmons briefly brings his own brand of excellence, but it's too little too late. I'm going to assume that Did You Hear About the Morgans? is the better Hugh Grant/Sarah Jessica Parker film.
Surely.
