Review of Extraordinary Measures (2010) by Michaël M — 08 Jun 2010

I must admit that I was curious to watch the movie since coming across the first trailer. Pairing Harrion Ford, the action and macho guy with Brendan Fraser, the Mummy guy (or George of the Jungle if you prefer) in a movie that did not sound to be an action one seemed to me quite a challenge!

The movie is touching, telling the story (said to be based on true facts) of a father trying to save his children from a rare genetic desease. He is looking for the help of a scientific, recognised as the only one to develop a potential cure. The movie is articulated not only on the relation between both actors (it takes the first half of the movie), but also on the financing of genetic research. This part is quite interesting, talking about "acceptable death rate" and "return on investment" to people trying to cure patients through the financing of the development of a product. The confrontation between both views is interesting in this movie.

You can see that Brendan put some weight and his play remains quite limited in the drama field and Ford plays well the caracterial university professor (aren't they all?).
