Review of Extraction (2020) by Ryanjhan — 24 Apr 2020
It's like John Wick meets Blood Diamond in the best way possible. IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE TRAILER YET, DON'T WATCH IT. The movie foils out way better if you don't know what to expect.
Edit: So, this movie was obviously intended to be a popcorn action-packed film to watch, and the film perfectly fulfilled its role. For this reason, I gave it a 10. This movie has some of the best action I've seen in a movie, and that one-take scene was so well executed. The film gives us constant fight scenes that have us at the edge of our seats (bed for me lol). But, I feel like there was too much action for us to really get to know the characters. Tyler's relationship with the boy was well executed and touching, but we never really get to know them personally (like Tyler's son backstory seems pretty cliche and didn't serve much purpose in the movie). The villain was a decent one, but we didn't get to see his character develop at all. It was just Tyler against a **** ton of police officers/military which I'm honestly fine with seeing how this was a straight-up action movie just something to point out. But yah the characters arcs seemed rushed cause so much of the film was just fight scenes.
Some things non-action related I liked was the soundtrack. Emotional, tense, raw music that went really well with the movie so bravo to the composer. The acting was also superb, particularly Chris' and Ovi. *SPOILER* But holy **** the way how Tyler goes down had me **** triggered like that **** teen really killed him?! Dude did nothing the entire movie and he gets to kill this dude idk I hated that part.
