Review of Extraction (2015) by Jessica V — 01 Apr 2016
Review:
What a load of rubbish! The storyline was really poor, and over complicated and the acting was weak from the whole cast, including Bruce Willis. I totally lost interest on who was who and what was what, and when the story unfolds towards the end, it just seemed like a right mess. The director wasted most of his budget on the opening credits, which looked quite good, and a couple of the action scenes were half decent but once the whole save the world concept came into play, it became really annoying and the technical jargon just got on my nerves. Anyway, Leonard Turner (Bruce Willis) is a highly decorated CIA agent who loses his wife at the beginning of the movie and seeks revenge by setting up the people who killed her. His son, Harry Turner (Kellan Lutz), who is moving up the ranks as a CIA agent, hears that his father has been kidnapped, so he takes it upon himself to try and save his dad, even though the head of the agency told him to stay away from the case. When the agency hears that Leonard was trying to retrieve a case which could damage the whole world, they send out there best agent, Victoria (Gina Carano) to retrieve the "Condor" and save Leonard but she soon realises that Harry is also trying to save his father, so they join forces and battle against the terrorist who have kidnapped Leonard, even though they have a troubled past. That part of the concept was pretty straight forward and not too bad in parts, but once they get to Leonard, there loads of double crossing and unnecessary over complication, to a movie which set out to be, quite simply, about revenge. Anyway, the colour pallette that the director used was awful and it made the movie look really cheap. The leading character, Kellan Lutz didn't have any screen charisma at all but his Kung Fu skills wasn't bad. Gina Carano played her usual "tough girl" type of role but I really don't know what the hell Willis was doing in this film. He really needs to sort out his choice of projects, because I haven't seen him in a decent movie for some time. Disappointing! .
Round-Up:
This poor action movie was directed by Steven C. Miller, 35, who hasn't made a decent movie in his whole career, which started in 2006 with Automaton Transfusion. In 2012 he brought you Under The Bed, The Aggression Scale and Solent Night, which also went under the radar. He then directed Submerged in 2015, which also didn't go anywhere, and then he brought out this movie, which didn't go down well with audiences. With one bad movie after another, I really do think that Steven should rethink his career or try and change his methods of movie making. The deep blacks and elaborate greens in this film, were awful, along with the poor soundtrack and cheap sets. I think you can tell that I thought this film was bad but I will give it a couple of stars for the action scenes.
I recommend this movie to people who are into their action/thrillers starring Bruce Willis, Kellan Lutz, Gina Carano, D.B. Sweeney, Joshua Mikel and Steve Coulter. 2/10.
