Review of Extract (2009) by Dutch V — 01 May 2010
I am a huge Mike Judge fan and have been for quite some, and I couldn't wait to see this. I had heard some negative things about it, but I figured I would get a hold of it anyway and see if they were right or wrong.
This movie by no stretch of the imagination is as well constructed or as funny as Office Space. However it offers what Judge is good at and that is very, very dry character driven comedy. Judge is great at offering a very dark yet also funny view of American culture and society in general.
To which he then molds that satire around some of the more ridiculous characters ever. This is apparent in Beavis and Butthead, King of the Hill, and Office Space. All the characters are ridiculous yet it works.
There are moments that are absolutely hilarious that I know I'll quote over and over again. However I did feel there were times that it dragged, but in the end it didn't distract from my enjoyment of the film.
Also Judge's cameo is probably my favorite scene in the movie. Watch it if you ever have a case of the Monday's.
