Review of Extract (2009) by Michael Y — 02 Sep 2010
Mike Judge (the creator of Beavis and Butthead, King of the Hill and Office Space) goes back to his comedy roots about the workplace and personal life.
Joel is the owner and creator of a product of food extracts, but now he's planning on selling the company. That is, he would sell the company if one of his employees weren't suing him for the freak workplace accident of loosing one of his BALLS. Joel begins to drown in problems as his sexual frustration for another employee builds because he can't seem to have sex with his own wife. It's these kinds of stories that are really interesting, and Mike Judge always had a talent for making tv shows or movies that people can relate too. This film in a good example, not just because of the realistic and annoying characters, but because this film deals with the theme that people always misjudge others, and we never know what they're going to do, whether good or bad.
Mike Judge is also a good director. Because he makes films that people can relate too, he always tries to capture the world as people see it. Even though the day is long and the sun is shining, that doesn't mean it's going to be a good day. The cast too do a great job, acting very natural, yet very annoying when they're supposed to be, which is just at times hilarious.
Is Extract the new Office Space? No. And there are a lot of people that really don't like this movie. But you know what? Extract is a good comedy, it's cleverly written, good preformances, and it just has that realistic and unpredictable quality that Mike Judge delivers so well.
