Review of Extract (2009) by Bradley H — 16 Jan 2012
The humor is a bit on the dark side with all of the dysfunctional characters but I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. You can tell this is from Mike Judge, the creator of Office Space, because it is a brand of humor that finds comedy in the mundane daily grind.
A man longing for an affair arranges a gigolo to lure his wife in an affair so he will not feel guilty about his planned infidelity. It sounds mean-spirited but when things go wrong and lies and mistakes pile up it gets pretty funny.
I think this is the right kind of role for Jason Bateman, he is funny but is not asked to do too much. Ben Affleck, Kristen Wigg, David Koechner, Mila Kunis and JK Simmons are a good supporting cast and earn plenty of laughs.
There are several quirky and funny characters and they make this whole misadventure funny and enjoyable.
