Review of Explorers (1985) by Lynn W — 17 Mar 2013

This movie actually had a lot of elements I liked, but also left a lot of things just hanging out there.

I will start with the three leads being very fantastic for children actors, especially Hawke! Sadly, the rest of the cast is never given enough time to develop or give anything but standard performances. Like, they kind of hint that the Aliens have tried to contact humans before, through Dick Miller no less, but then they never continue with that idea. He just leaves the movie never to return. And I loved Amanda Peterson in CAN'T BUY ME LOVE, so I was happy to see she actually did do another movie. Sadly, her love story with Hawke seems totally fake. Like they never talk until the very end, but she has a dream about him and then they are already kissing? Needed to be fleshed out more.

I won't get into the science, as when you have kids flying into space in a carnival ride cart, you kind of have to leave your brain at the door.

I wish they would have um...EXPLORED more before going into space. And the whole section IN space turned out to be a huge let down not only for the characters, but for us watching too.

Liked half this movie, half not so much.
