Review of Exorcist: The Beginning (2004) by Burnz P — 02 Feb 2009
Good God. This is what happens when you try and get an action director to take on the subject of demonic possession. While William Friedkin -- director of the original Exorcist -- understood full well that the terror surrounding this subject matter lies more in the mind, Renny (read: Runny) Harlin wants us to see it as something akin to a fist-fight between good and evil. Worse yet, the film looks unmistakenly as if it were shot entirely on a sound stage providing little contrast between scenes.
There are some chilling parts to this film, but not enough to make it worth a passing glance... and not nearly enough to make up for the mess of an ending. Don't even bother.
