Review of Exorcist: The Beginning (2004) by Luc L — 02 Nov 2010
Lame attempt to salvage Schrader's film tells the same story, but with no subtly, style, or class. It just throws horrific imagery on the screen and hopes something sticks.
In the end it makes little sense. If anyone can explain to me how on earth that final plot twist makes any sense for the first hour and a half of the movie, I would love to hear. It seems like it's designed mostly so you can get some Regan-esque salty language for the final exorcism scene.
I guess it's better paced than Schrader's film in that something is always happening loudly and in your face (Schrader's film is far more involving, but at times it moves like molasses), but it's really dumb.
