I'm a firm atheist and far too smart to get suckered into organised religion, but obviously I know the story of Moses leading the Jews to freedom. Unfortunately, this is the film's main problem.

The story is so well known that it offers little surprises, and fails to hit the levels of The Ten Commandments (1956). Indeed, the most interesting section is the first 45 minutes or so; before we are introduced to the plagues of locusts and the journey to the red sea.

I'd also question some of the casting choices (Ewen Bremner is a quirky talent but sticks out in this epic, and the role of the messenger is too much for the young man tasked with the portrayal). In summary, a well told but lightweight tale.
