Review of Exodus: Gods and Kings (2014) by Viktor N — 19 Sep 2015
Unlike the professional critics I found the movie quite entertaining from beginning to end. Yes I have seen The Ten Commandments countless times and know the story from the Old Testament. Nonetheless I appreciated Ridley Scott's interpretation and the production itself.
Yes in 2+ hours we might have had more subplots with the other family members and greater exposure of those actors. But Bale did well IMHO dealing with the conflict of his identity versus his history and allegiances.
The soundtrack and the effects certainly elevated the production beyond what it might have been in, say, 1970, lacking those technical advances. I give it a 5 star simply because - I was thoroughly entertained, and that is, after all, the entire purpose of the effort.
