Review of eXistenZ (1999) by Tatsuhito K — 13 Jul 2015
A gooey, grotesque virtual-reality sci-fi film full of twists and turns. Cronenberg really understands how the human psychology works, and in eXistenZ, he explores the minds of gamers and the difference between the game and reality.
Just like many earlier works of his, he has this weird fascination with body-horror, and he incorporates that idea into this smart, erotic, and slimy piece of work. Anyone who loves playing video games will have a great time watching eXistenz, and maybe they will get the message Cronenberg is trying to convey.
Or maybe not.
