Review of eXistenZ (1999) by Nikhil M — 03 Mar 2013
"Have I won? Have I won the game..?".
Zeitgeisty Cronenberg that happily hasn't dated too much, eXistenZ has a clever, twisty narrative (that amusingly has excuses for rambling accents, bad acting and poorly drawn characters) and superb design. Several plot points have been used in other films and, especially, in TV science fiction, but rarely with such aplomb and ambition. Produced on a low budget, the film is crying out for rediscovery and a new video release (the DVD, one if the first I bought, was produced in association with Sega Dreamcast and is non-anamorphic).
