Review of Excision (2012) by Todd G — 10 Jun 2012
A battle between an unstable teen and her neurotic and controlling mother earns our sympathy, but the girl is truly deranged. Fantasy leads to actuality.
Neither McCord's nor Lords's performances are especially convincing, but the script feels real and the psychosexual surgery fantasies are shocking, bloody and vulgar. While the movie succeeds in siding the audience with McCord's anti-social and subversive teen through exchanges with her mother, the relationships outside of the home do not create any resonance and leave us conflicted about where this story is going.
And in the end, it is going straight for the gory (and slightly nonsensical) ending without the expected sexual touches held up to our faces during the fantasy scenes. Perhaps a missed opportunity.
Definitely good midnight-movie fodder, but not recommended as a main course.
