Review of Excalibur (1981) by Jm L — 17 Oct 2008
A great movie of myth, magic and chivalric knights. It's pretty much true to the Arthurian legend, but also adds some nice flavours to it. The elements of the story is well balanced, which means it's not all about Guinevere and Lancelot, for instance, as many of Excalbur's sister movies are.
Excalibur has a wonderful cast, with plenty featured actors like Liam Neeson, Gabriel Byrne and Ciarán Hinds. The movie has a mythical atmosphere that fits to the story, though it's rather dark and grim - not romanticized fantasy.
The only thing I would have seen better in this movie is to see more of the Knights of the Round Table. Some of them were (sadly) absent, though many were included. It would also be nice to see it with today's video quality standards, and with a more fast paced beginning.
