Review of Excalibur (1981) by Jared S — 14 Feb 2009
Ok, so the special effects are practically non-existent in this film and there's a lot of speak of a "dragon" that never actually shows up to wreak havoc. If that's what you want, rent Dragonslayer, which actually has a dragon wreaking havoc . . . but getting back to the matter at hand, this movie's soul rests in it's stirring visuals of sometimes bleak yet moody landscapes, the atmosphere imbued by the wonderful mostly international cast (a very young Liam Neeson plays one of the Knights), and last but not least, the soul-stirring operatic score music.
And, hey . . . it was produced in the 80's, which is already cool in my book for an action flick.
