Review of Ex Machina (2015) by Robby B — 12 Sep 2016
This is a great thriller about what it means to be human in which a female android is put through a series of interviews by a young man in order to try to determine whether she has developed a consciousness.
A small but brilliantly chosen cast make this a disturbing, "Hitcockian" story that really draws the viewer in. The android, Ava, is beautifully and interestingly realised and Alicia Vikander makes her but intriguing and disturbing.
I do like this sort of movie. Small scale sci-if I that examines the big questions about what it really means to be human and this is a great example of the genre. If you enjoyed the movies Moon or A.
I. I have no doubt you will enjoy this Alex Garland directed film which is unsettling and thought provoking.
