Review of Ex Machina (2015) by Ben T — 14 Nov 2015

Ex Machina is the directorial debut of Alex Garland. This film is one of those films that even though it was made for very little money, feels like it had a huge budget. The film stars Domnhall Gleeson as Caleb, he's a great actor and he gives probably his best peformance of his career.

Oscar Isaac is also brilliant as Nathan, he's very creepy and mysterious. Alicia Vikander like Gleeson is another brilliant actor with a fairly new career, she's great in this film and I can see why she's now got a big career.

This film is fantastically directed by Alex Garland, I cannot believe this is his first movie, he's such a good director and did a fantastic job with this film. This film also has beautiful cinematography, the camera work is fantastic and this is a visually gorgeous film.

The cgi is also brilliant, Ava looks fantastic and there isn't a bad effect in the film. The music is also fantastic, there is this scene with Caleb learning the truth about the robots and Nathan and the music is just so disturbing and brilliant.

Speaking of which this film has some very disturbing moments, and disturbing themes about slavery and oppression, definitely not the happiest movie. The screenplay is also fantastic, as is the editing.

This film is brilliantly well paced and there wasnt a dull moment. Ex Machina is a brilliant film and I have only one problem and that is while I loved most of the film, I was a little underwhelmed by the ending.

The ending was good but I didn't like it as much as the rest of the film. Overall Rx Machina is one of the best movies of 2015 and an absolute masterpiece. A.
