Review of Evita (2009) by Jen S — 11 Jan 2009
I really, really hated it at first. One particular line specially bothered me: "She did nothing". You can say many things about Eva Peron but you MOST DEFINITELY can't say she didn't do anything.
And it tried to made it look as if what she did good was nothing next to what she did wrong or her past, or personality which is ideologically irrelevant. But halfway through, it began to change and I realised they weren't being THAT harsh on her, but they really could have mentioned for instance the sanitary train.
Many things were correct and many were not, some were even chronologically wrong! Nevertheless, it's entretaining, original in many, many ways, the songs are beautiful and it's not THAT mistaken about Evita.
But there's one thing worth highlighting: Madonna's performance. She's absolutely incredible, breathtaking. The emotional scenes at the end were so moving! She was unbelievable! I really wish she made better movie choices, she'd be an Oscar winner by now.
