Review of Evil Dead (2013) by Bruno D — 22 Jun 2016
Evil Dead is a remake/sequel/reimagining of The Evil Dead 1981. The films is about a group of friends who travel to a cabin in the woods but when a book is found they unleash demons into their world and must face them off.
This movie while it isn't as good as the previous movies its non the less an excellent movie. and a great remake. The movie has a serviceable story but its nothing new and has been done before (obviously) but they utilized the simple premise very well.
This movie has excellent production value with its fantastic make up work and gore effects as well as setting up creepy atmosphere. This movie separates itself from the previous movies and has its own identity by completely changing its tone from black comedy to being dark and violent which is a plus.
The movie does have re imaginings of the old character but I do wish some of them were written better but at the end of the day we watch the movie to see them die violently as advertised, not to bond with them so its really just a small nit pick.
Performances are pretty good and are much better than the cheesy performances of the previous movies which is expected. This is up there with the good remakes.Overall 4/5.
