As remakes go this takes the best from the first two films and does a 'Greatest Hits' package with it. Therefore there's nothing here you haven't seen before, although now we have much more realistic gore than we did in the 80's.
If you liked the originals you may miss the lack of humour and Ash but you'll appreciate the amount of effort the film-makers went to to stay true to the style of Raimi's classics. If you've never seen the originals and you like films like 'Hostel' and the remakes of 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' and 'The Hills Have Eyes' then this is the film for you.
I didn't find it overly scary but I did find myself flinching at the violence. You have been warned!
