Review of Evil Dead (2013) by Jacob B — 20 Jan 2016

Well made Horror movie with a near equal amount of Pros and Cons.

Okay, I never saw the original, so I can't compare. However I did see the second and third, which were strange, but successfully combined Horror with bits of humor.

But this one is straight up Horror. This review may contain very minor spoilers, but nothing that matters too much, just a few minor things that weren't too big in the movie.

Pros:

Effective tension.

Very Disturbing.

Great gore effects, and lots of it.

Nice twist in the opening scene.

Cons:

Stressful, just when you think it's over, something else happens.

Super stupid characters, they were kind of likable but some of the stupidest characters ever.

Super predictable.

Then there is the meh category, the ending was decent, not great but good enough. The acting and script weren't bad, but not award winning.

My advice? Worth a watch, maybe two. The movie did its job, but the predictability of the movie and the stupidity of the characters drove me insane. They are smart in one scene, and stupid beyond belief in another. So I think the critics and audience are pretty dead on. Plus I got to see it free due to a disruption in the previous movie I saw. So 6/10, worth a watch, but don't bring the faint of heart.
