Review of Eve's Bayou (1997) by Brittani D — 14 Jun 2007
Beautifully acted and directed film. A shame more people haven't seen it. One of the rare films where an African American family is featured and race is not the central issue. Even though the movie has an all black cast, the characters are well educated, have strong family bonds, and deal with real issues, so that race is not the only thing explored; we get to see the humanity of the characters, which gives the film a universal appeal.
Please, Hollywood, make more films like this and allow black filmakers like Kasi Lemmons to bring refreshing pieces of work such as this to Hollywood and allow the films to be released in more than two theaters.
