Review of Eve's Bayou (1997) by Kyle R — 13 Feb 2008
It's a gem. it was all but passed over in the year of titanic, la confidential and boogie nights. debbi morgan gave THE supporting performance of 1997 as mazelle, the sensuous aunt with a talent for soothsaying and losing husbands. the rest of the cast is spectacular, especially lynn whitfield, samuel l jackson and the kids, the score is a great, spicy atmospheric blend of 1950s r and b and terence blanchard's swirling orchestral music. the camera work is vivid and lyrical at thesame time. plus tamara tunie narrates with her gorgeous voice.
Oh yeah--a child with the blues a better song that my heart will go on? I don't think so!
