Review of Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex *But Were Afraid to Ask (1972) by Sabra E — 12 Feb 2011
Gene Wilder in bed with an Armenian sheep in lingerie is something that makes the idea of blow-up sheep dolls perfectly understandable to me now. Thanks Woody Allen.
What a deliciously wacky set of vignettes. Out of seven skits based on questions of sex, my favorites had to be: Why Do Some Women Have Trouble Reaching an Orgasm, Allen's homage to Italian filmmaking--Fellini in particular; and What Happens During Ejaculation, featuring Allen as a scared paratrooper sperm and Burt Reynolds as a switchboard operator in a man's brain.
The rest of the skits about aphrodisiacs, Beastiality and perverts were hilarious, too, including a sci-fi bit about a mad sex scientist creating a giant killer tit, which was obvious inspiration for Allen's "Sleeper" which came out the subsequent year.
Classic is all I can say: Allen's sex movie based on a book about sex is a classic, timeless Americana, which will leave endearing imprints on our minds for many generations of filmgoers; especially that of Lou Jacobi in a dress, mustache and all.
