Review of Everything Must Go (1996) by Glignox . — 26 May 2013
Another solid dramatic turn by Wil Ferrell in the vain of "Stranger Than Fiction" although slightly darker and more restrained. A very deliberate pace that could have killed the film, but Ferrell and director Dan Rush make it work and keep it interesting. Another good move was keeping it a crisp 96 minutes.
Ferrell plays a man with some issues in his past that recently resurfaced on a business trip. This leads to him losing his job, wife' and house all on the same day. The beauty of Ferrells performance is how the character gives in to some temptation by drinking again, yet holds back from a complete relapse although you can tell he is torn.
I always enjoy his comedic turns, even if the movies are less than mediocre at times, but if he can continue getting scripts like this to work with, we could be on the verge of the turn that Robin Williams made with his film career. I mean, who doesnt want to hear a Will Ferrell acceptance speach at the Academy Awards?
