Review of Everyone Says I Love You (1996) by Adam E — 27 Jul 2008
Woody Allen tries his hand at directing a musical, and the result is the thoroughly entertaining Everyone Says I Love You. Woody's wish to have non-singers burst into songs is as refreshing as it is infuriating and will leave some cold and others smiling.
Everyone Says I Love You certainly has its moments, such as Goldie Hawn's glorious final dance and Woody's hilarious attempt at jogging and flirting in Venice. But it also has its flaws, Edward Norton's "Woody" impression is tiring and cringe-worthy, Julia Roberts' singing is the dullest, flatest thing you'll ever hear and most of the characters are just way too rich to be truly likeable.
Still, if you sit back and watch it with a light heart you'll find plenty to enjoy.
