Review of Every Little Step (2008) by Max W — 12 Nov 2009
Why make a film out of audition and callback footage most actors would kill to see but never do? Because of the intrigue. The audition process for the revival of A Chorus Line in 2006 showcases some extreme talent, overlayed with songs from the show, which essentially details what we're seeing but in song, and clips from the tapes of interviews Michael Bennett collected about dancers in the 70s.
The drama is there, and that's enough to make an entertaining movie, even at other actors' expenses. But man, even though it was a little egotistical, I loved the actor who said of auditions: "I'm going in there and I'm throwing a party, and those people behind the table are invited, and I hope they join me.
" It's like saying, go in there, have fun, let it be for yourself. You've got to love you at the end of the day when you've heard no for the hundredth time. A newfound respect for the show.
