Review of Every Little Step (2008) by Peter E — 14 Dec 2009
I saw the revival on Broadway a couple of years ago and was pretty disappointed by it. Not much new was done to it and there were no goosebumps on the forearms during "One" when there certainly should be.
Having said that, this was a pretty interesting inside look at the casting of the revival. More could have been done, but you get a decent enough view of the auditions and casting process. Some interesting interviews of potential cast members and of those behind the scenes of the storied musical.
I would add a star here for anyone who is involved with the performing arts, likes musicals or anything to do with dance. What is evident here is the desperation, grit, determination and passion that these dancers have.
This comes across crystal clear. If I were still teaching my drama classes, I would surely show this to my students -- and I would recommend this film to those who aspire to dance, sing, act or anything of that nature.
The look on one of the dancers faces when she gets the cellphone call informing her that she was cast is priceless.....
