Review of Every Little Step (2008) by Clayton W — 30 Jun 2009
Every Little Step is one of the most emotional movies I've ever seen. I started crying almost immediately, and the tears persisted through the final moving scenes. It's so inspiring to watch people pursue their dreams, and amazing to see the dancing abilities which make me so jealous.
A Chorus Line is one of my favorite musicals, so I was very excited to see this movie. It's sort of a two-for-one deal. While focusing mainly on the auditioning process for the incredible 2006 revival, the documentary also chronicles the show's history, which was really cool. I didn't realize just how true-to-life the show was; nearly every song and character was based on actual experiences shared during a meeting of dancers. It brings even more emotional resonance to the beautiful and varied score.
If ever a documentary deserved to win the Oscar, this is it. One thrilling combination, indeed.
