Review of Everlasting Moments (2008) by Kate C — 26 Apr 2009
This film transports you back to 1907 Sweden and follows the story of a young woman, Maria Larsson, who seem destined for an ordinary life as a wife and mother. But, she discovers another identity and yearning when she is given a camera and sees her life and the days and moments through a new lens.
The film itself has the look of a Vermeer painting and the story, the struggles, the relationship between Maria and her mentor are quite understated. But, you appreciate her and her life all the more because they are not made overly heroic or glamorous.
Apparently the film is inspired by a real woman and her story and the film maker captures the authenticity of the period and the quiet strength of a woman who becomes more sure of herself as her life takes some difficult twists and turns.
