Review of Everlasting Moments (2008) by Katie M — 27 Jul 2011
Everlasting Moments is a portrait--a glimpse into another era and expectation. It is one which is gritty and engaging. The characters evoke conflicting emotions within the viewer because they're not ideal. Lead acress Maria Heiskanen does a superb job as a mother who discovers a love of photography while having to deal with a drunkard, abusive husband. Mikael Persbrandt does an equally great job as his role as the husband.
As a story of liberation, Everlasting Moments might take modern viewers aback. But what Everlasting Moments highlights is that Maria Larsson became her own woman through her refusal to give up her passion. And that is a mighty thing indeed that even modern people miss in their quest for physical/social liberation.
