Review of Event Horizon (1997) by Alan W — 29 Jun 2010
It is amazing what atmosphere can do for a movie. At first glance, I was skeptical of this, and the first parts of the film didn't do that much to ease those suspicions. But upon a closer examination, Event Horizon chilled me straight to the bone.
The pacing might unravel a bit toward the end, some of the acting might not be that great...but I'll be damned if this was not effective at creeping me out. With strokes of Alien, Hellraiser and The Shining combined with a modern feel and effects, this takes a classic horror template and brings it into the newer (at the time) days.
It does take a little too long to get going, but when it does, you'll be looking over your shoulder at every sound in the night. Watch out.
