Review of Event Horizon (1997) by Devon S — 25 Oct 2013

Upon finishing rewatching Stargate Netflix decided to recommend Event Horizon to me....you know, because they're so similar, right? I remember liking this film a lot and finding it deeply disturbing when I saw it oh-so-many-years ago. Though it doesn't leave me with that pure uneaziness feeling that it did upon my first viewing, it still has eerie moments that stick with you. It could be a much better film if it didn't heavily rely on the jump scares paired with ubnoxous sounds. Some may find the premise of a ship that's come back from hell/chaos dimension enough to sustain them, and for them this film will be very disturbing. But now, I don't find it so believable.

If you're looking for an eerie Halloween film then definitely check this out over one of those pathetic attempts at film, Paranormal Activity or the Saw films. If you're looking for sci-fi horror that's going to stick with you, take a gander at the original Alien(s) films.
