Review of Europa Europa (1990) by Hawk L — 01 Feb 2009
Remarkable feat of filmmaking that befits the film's incredible yet true story. Marco Hofschneider embodies the gawky boy masquerading as first a good little Communist, then a brave Nazi war hero. His struggles are presented as merely the conflicted loyalties and unavoidable compromises of adolescence given terrible new significance by history.
