Review of Escape from Tomorrow (2013) by Bobby D — 02 Jun 2014
A major disappointment. The filmmaker had an opportunity to really comment on the pressures families face when planning exotic resort vacations which strangle the family's pocket book. There is an idea for societal commentary here, but the filmmaker and his team couldn't seem to get past the novelty of filming inside Walt Disney World without getting caught and the film suffers for it.
Once you're there- there is nowhere for the story to go. A few gimmicks here and there but the overall effort falls flat. Too bad, there's a few scenes where the actors are filmed against green screen and I actually like look of that better as it created a surreal other worldly effect and the actors seemed more comfortable in their roles and focused on their parts.
In hindsight it might've been better to feel various location plates and do all the speaking parts in front of the green screen. But once you're $650,000 into a project- you do what you can.
