Review of Escape from the Planet of the Apes (1971) by Craig S — 07 Jul 2010
While it doesn't have the same feel of the first two films, it almost certainly is easier to watch than the muddle of the second film. Taking place in the current day as opposed to the ape controlled future, this lacks some of the cool of the first two but makes up for it by not containing any bald-telepathic humans.
In actual fact, this sequel attempts to cover the same social commentary that the first did, which it does pretty well. The plights of Zira and Cornelius living in a world dominated by humans is entertaining at first, the obvious montage ensues, including Zira taking a bubble bath and getting typsy.
But it quickly transcends into the same downer ending that the first two films had. But overall, its more well rounded that its direct predecessor (which has a rushed and silly ending - with an over the top Heston).
I would recommend, not just another silly movie despite the image this franchise has.
