Review of Escape from the Planet of the Apes (1971) by Andrew R — 30 Apr 2011
My favorite of all the Planet of the Apes sequels, this is the only one that has a really light feel for part of the movie. Setting it the 1970s gave the filmmakers something different to work with and many of the themes were applied to events occurring at the time.
It is strange when it goes from a light "fish out of water" movie to a dark movie. I also find it amusing that besides mention the "Earth blew up", the second movie is pretty much forgotten.
Apparently the astronaut John Brent (James Franciscus from the second film) didn't make much of an impression on Earth since everyone just wanted to know about Taylor (and none of the copilots etc.
) Earth apparently missed its Charlton Heston.
