Review of Escape from the Planet of the Apes (1971) by James R — 31 May 2011
Escape from the Planet of the Apes is a somewhat disappointing--yet still decently entertaining--follow-up to the first two films in the series: The Planet of the Apes and Beneath the Planet of the Apes.
The film attempts to be clever by having the apes travel back in time to when humans were still the masters of the planet, hence reversing the relationship from the previous two films. But, ultimately, the film just feels superfluous as it rehashes the same themes from the previous two.
Still, the film will most likely entertain fans of the series who are not averse to cheesy and unnecessary sequels.
