Review of Escape from the Planet of the Apes (1971) by Tyler M — 08 May 2008
Better than Beneath Planet of the Apes, but doesn't quite live up to the standards of the first one.
This films is just plain goofy! It almost feels like a bad 70's sitcom. The story? A role reversal as Zira and Cornelius... And Milo?... Find themselves crash landing to earth, much like Taylor in the original. Subjected to goofy tests, and than treated like heroes and icons, and than threatened for what they might do to society should they bread. It tries so hard to be emotional but everything comes off as being just... Silly. It's funny, and doesn't take itself quite so seriously, so it doesn't feel quite as preachy as the others but maybe that's just because it's impossible to take the apes seriously when they're living the glamorous life and giving motivational speeches.
It's nothing more than a silly sequal.
