Review of Escape from the Planet of the Apes (1971) by Cancelled U — 02 Jul 2008
The third film of the original Planet of the Apes series stands out for both its gentle and satirical humor. It also contains some notable attempts to explain hoary scientific concepts, like infinite regression and parallel universes.
It's frequently campy, with formulaic elements, like an evil scientist (who does though rattle off one angry line about humans always postponing reform), but no less so than most of the acting in the series, including Heston in the first one.
TPA, for better or worse, is also notable as the first film series that expanded into TV series and product tie-ins,a feat Star Trek perfected.
