Review of Escape from the Planet of the Apes (1971) by Kevin R — 12 Aug 2011

I hate those that try to alter destiny.

Last we saw the planet of the apes a bomb had been launched and the planet was destroyed. Back on Earth, sometime later, a space craft lands carrying three apes that manages to escape their exploding planet. Initially, the scientists of Earth are fascinated by the creatures and easily except them. However, as Earthlings discover more and more about the planet of the apes, they believe destroying the space apes may prevent their civilization from transitioning into a planet that resembles the planet of the apes.

"Does the other one talk?".

"Only when she lets me.".

Don Taylor, director of Damien: Omen II, The Island of Dr. Moreau (1977), The Final Countdown, Honky Tonk, and Jack of Diamonds delivers Escape from the Planet of the Apes. The storyline for this picture is similar to the original planet of the apes movie without the shock of a planet run my primates. The acting in this picture was better than anticipated and the cast includes Kim Hunter, Eric Braeden, Army Archerd, Roddy McDowall, and William Windom.

"Did you call the zoo?".

This is a very good planet of the apes picture and is a bit underrated. I have not seen the Rise of the Planet of the Apes, but I hope this movie was referenced heavily in the making of that recent remake. This movie is a gem and almost as good as the original (just a step below). Overall, this is a wonderful science fiction picture that is definitely worth your time.
