Review of Escape from Planet Earth (2013) by Jc E — 13 Aug 2013
I really don't remember much about this flick's marketing campaign, and I didn't think it would do that well. But it actually turned out to be a decent hit, and it got some good press on the family-friendliness front, so I put it in my Netflix queue.
It's got a decent voice cast, including Rob Corddry (Warm Bodies), Brendan Fraser (G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra), Jessica Alba (Machete), Sofia Vergara ("Modern Family"), Ricky Gervais ("The Office"), and William Shatner (Fanboys).
Plus a rag-tag alien troupe voiced by Craig Robinson (This is the End), Jane Lynch ("Glee"), and the annoying George Lopez (Rio). Oh, and the less said about Sarah Jessica Parker's (Smart People) involvement, the better.
(Honestly, I didn't even know that she was in it, but I was shocked when I read that a horse voiced one of the characters.) It's silly, but it doesn't push an agenda. It's got heart where it counts, but it isn't something truly memorable.
