Review of Escape from New York (1981) by Evan B — 06 Jul 2011
Back to using the Western archetype in what could very well be the modern western (in that it takes place in a futuristic or modern environment), this is the ultimate film for those who feel like the USA has gone off track politicaly and isn't at all what the founding fathers had in mind.
It is still a good action piece though, with alot of "out there" concepts executed brilliantly and shows Carpenter's ability to make $20 million dollars look like $200 million. Not to mention Kurt Russel in one of his best performances.
