Review of Escape from New York (1981) by Jon P — 29 Apr 2014
Dystopian visions of prison have never looked darker or dirtier than in this classic 1981 John Carpenter and Kurt Russell collaboration, set in the distant Sci-Fi future of, uhm, 1997. Russell oozes cool as bombastic B-movie badass Snake Plissken and although rarely glimpsed in the light, or even from afar, Carpenter's dank, mud-smeared Manhattan island is atmospheric bliss to behold, no matter how knuckleheaded and MacGuffin-heavy his shlocky script may be.
Sure, it's garbage, but rummaging through garbage can be dirty AND rewarding, right? 80s gold with a tin lining.
