Review of Ernest Scared Stupid (1991) by Chad H — 06 Aug 2013
Ernest Scared Stupid stars the late and very great Jim Varney who was incredibly silly but very likable. The opening is great it starts off with stock footage from some old horror films. And they are all combined with reaction shots from Ernest.
Its a really good nod off to the older genres of horror movies. The whole plot of the movie is some bad things happen and its up to Ernest to save the town from evil Trolls. It all starts when Ernest helps some kids build a tree house, and it just so happens that this tree is the burial ground of a 200 year old troll.
Its a really fun and entertaining movie in which the effects are really well done. Seeing this as a child, its somewhat scary but in a really fun way. This is also among the few movies that I know of in which the main characters are killed off, well temporarily but still.
The ending is a spectacular war between children and trolls that is both silly and entertaining for the whole family. I recommend this movie but really for the kids, it has a rich blend of thrills and laughs.
Its a movie in which the kids are the heroes and all the adults are stupid idiots. But watch it around Halloween to bring yourself back to a time when Halloween was the best.
