Review of Erin Brockovich (2000) by Simon W — 15 Oct 2009
This to me is Steven Soderbergh at his best. When he's just making a normal movie. Not some big experimental event movie - Just a movie. And this is a prime example.
I love its classic Soderbergh look where everything looks like it's been filmed through some kind smog filled haze - you can practically feel the heat of those blazing hot days.
As far as the story goes, it's a fantastic, intreiging corporate mystery about the kind of thing that, now more than ever, should be kept at the front of all our minds. A great cast with Julia Roberts giving the performance of her career and absolutely deserving her Oscar. She's as compelling and watchable as I've ever seen her.
And that is where the true heart of this movie lies - In the character of Erin Brocovich. Watching her story unfold is what ultimately makes this movie as interesting and touching as it is.
